In 1947 Ruth and Walter Middelmann bought a piece of mountain land on the slopes of the Bot River valley, known as
"Honingklip". The 915 hectare expanse was covered entirely with what
is known as "fynbos'. This vegetation type, typical of the Cape
Floral Kingdom, is recognized by its large number of indigenous
ericas, bulbs, grasses, everlastings and protea species.
Of the original farm, 420 hectare (900 acres) has
been set aside to create a nature reserve. The remaining land
continues to be developed for cultivation. At present there are more
than 80 ha planted with 9 different species, partially under
irrigation to achieve a higher quality product.
With customized packaging, as well as through our bleaching, preserving
and dyeing operation, we can rapidly adapt to changes in trends, allowing
us to respond quickly to our customers' needs. Our solar-powered drying
tunnels can handle large volumes of products quickly and efficiently,
while our trained staff transform the raw material to our customers'
specific requirements.
Today, Honingklip Dryflowers employs over 120 people and we ship to
many countries around the globe. Renewed interest in natural and
indigenous products has, over the last few years, led to increased local
sales.
