RUWAMI NATURE RESERVE, HIKING AND MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS

RUWAMI Nature Reserve Hiking and Mountain Bike Trails

We would be pleased to share the natural splendour of the fynbos with you:

CAVEWALK
This takes about 5 and a half hours and is suitable for the fitter hiker. It includes a walk along a mountain stream, up the mountain past "skilpadkop", where you can take a rest and have a beautiful view of the Overberg wheat fields. On a clear day you can see Caledon towards the NE. From here a nice easy walk till you reach the cave where you can spend some time exploring or just having a rest to enjoy the breathtakingview of the Botrivier lagoon and Arabella Country Estate. If you are lucky you might encounter "klipspringer" buck. A nice slow downhill walk will take you on a zigzag road with a beautiful view. Halfway down there is a short detour to have a look at a small waterfall and a mountain pool (mostly dry in summer). Go ahead and have a swim and cool off, if you are brave enough!!! From here it's back onto the main track and a downhill walk back toward the homestead.

"DIE KLIPSPRINGER"
This walk takes the better part of the day (7 hours) and some snacks and water in a rucksack are essential. The first part takes you around the east side of the mountain with a gradual climb. A nice view towards Caledon, with the sloping hills planted with wheat and canola in winter time, giving a beautiful blend of greens and yellows. A tough climb to the top will be worth your while as you look over the north side of the mountain and an awesome view of the Elgin valley and Rockview dam wall in the distance. Spend some time to absorb the beauty of nature. From here its down hill through some awesome fynbos veld until you reach the homestead.

PROTEA PLANTATION WALK
This is a nice short and easy walk through the protea plantations for those interested in the farming part of the business. Take care not to disturb our resident blue cranes at the dam.

MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS
We offer different trails ranging from a very short easy ride for the whole family to longer more difficult rides for the more experienced rider. All the trails take you through some spectacular fynbos veld with some beautiful scenes of the Botrivier lagoon and wheat fields towards Caledon.
